Whether it’s for religious or hygienic purposes, circumcision may have lifelong health benefits for male babies. At High Desert Pediatrics, we perform newborn circumcisions in the comfort of our homely medical office.
Ideally, circumcision is performed within the first few days of a baby being born. If the child is over 2 weeks old, their health must be assessed by a doctor before performing the procedure. Our circumcision doctors safely and effectively perform circumcisions where it is most convenient for you.
Things to bring to your circumcision:
Please allow at least 2 hours for the appointment. You will ask to wait an hour before going home to make sure the circumcision is not bleeding. If you are being referred to our office by another pediatrician in Albuquerque, New Mexico, please make sure that your baby has been evaluated by your pediatrician within a few days prior to making the appointment. If High Desert Pediatrics is your provider, please make a newborn follow up appointment first (within 1-3 days of discharge) and we will then schedule the circumcision separately. This ensures that your baby is well and it is safe to perform the procedure.
In addition to performing your son’s circumcision, our pediatricians can evaluate newborn health and wellness. Committed to childhood health, we can administer the recommended baby immunizations and ensure that your child is hitting the necessary developmental milestones for childhood health.
Circumcision requires specific aftercare. If your child has not urinated within 6 to 8 hours after the procedure or the penis appears infected, it is important to contact a circumcision pediatrician immediately.
